PTHS 209 Scholar of Excellence: Proviso West Student a Shining Star
@PTHS_209 Hillside, IL…Proviso West High School senior, Miki Grace, is a shining star. She has been pegged by school leadership as a scholar who is destined to make the Proviso community proud.
Miki lives in Bellwood. She ranks in the top of her class with a 3.2 G.P.A. and boasts an ACT score above the state average. She has been a varsity cheerleader and played varsity softball. She masters the trumpet as a member of the symphonic marching band and the Proviso West Jazz Band. Miki is also a member of Girls’ League, Proviso West’s Student Government Association, and president of the National Honor Society.
“I would say that being busy helps me to excel in school,” said Miki. “I don’t have a lot of free time, so it forces me to manage my time well, plan my studies, and do my homework. Staying active really keeps me on top of my school work.”
After being offered scholarships from Hampton University, The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, and Northern Illinois, Miki decided that Northern is her best choice. She plans to study public law and community engagement with the ultimate goal of attending Harvard Law School. Miki proudly credits the Proviso West Band and her music instructor, Mr. Atcher, for giving her the motivation to excel.
“I have been here for 13 years, and Ms. Grace has been one of my best students,” said Mr. Atcher. “She is very organized, she knows what she wants to do, she is helpful, and she really cares about her classmates. She is a special student at Proviso West. We are proud of what she is doing, and I hope that after graduation she will return and give back to the community. I know she will. She’s going to be great.”
Congratulations, Miki! You are a vital part of Proviso Rising.
